           Diabetes is fast gaining the status of a potential epidemic in India with more than 62 million diabetic individuals currently diagnosed with the disease. In 2000, India (31.7 million) topped the world with the highest number of people with diabetes mellitus. According to Wild et al.the prevalence of diabetes is predicted to double globally from 171 million in 2000 to 366 million in 2030 with a maximum increase in India. It is predicted that by 2030 diabetes mellitus may afflict up to 79.4 million individuals in India.

          Type II Diabetes Mellitus, if not diagnosed in time and managed well, can lead to number of complications, the common ones in India including Neuropathy, Cardiovascular, Renal failure, Eye problems and Foot complications. Hence District Council 2016-17 of RID 3141, has developed the integrated screening & counselling programme. Screening camps will be conducted at various sites in Mumbai in four phases. Individuals with diabetes will be offered couselling and if need be, referred to appropriate centre for management of complications. The district has established following partnerships for the same:

-ThyroCare Labs :: For screening.

-Eye Care :: All India Ophthalmological Society will help set up 200 coordinative Care centers for retina care.

-Foot Care :: Indian Podiatry Association will set up keycenters where the patient may be referred to.

-Cardiac Care :: Cardiological Society of India will look after the side referrals.

-Renal Care :: Indian Society of Nephrology will look after the side referrals.

-Peripheral Neuropathy :: neurological Society of India will look after the side referrals.
