PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAMME
Serving Since 2016
Diet of an Indian with less means, is highly deficient in vitamins and minerals. Several studies indicate about 44% of under 5 population in India suffers from malnutrition. A Indian study by Gearado Alvarez-Uria et al investigating prevalence of iron deficiency anaemia stratified by age, concluded under 5 children (especially 1-2yrs of age) were worst hit. Reports from World Bank showcase malnutrition related economic losses as high as 11% of world's GDP and 2-3% of India's GDP. Crux- meals need to be fortified with essential micro-nutrients. After extensive literature search, we zeroed in on an innovative solution- Micronutrient powder (MNP) aka “Sprinkles” to provide 100% daily requirement of 15 vitamins and minerals as per WHO guidelines (vitamin A,D,E, C, B complex; Iron, Folate, Zinc and other essential trace elements).

‘Sprinkles’ is an innovative multi-micronutrient home fortification strategy to control nutritional anemia & malnutrition. It is an odorless, colourless, tasteless powder; delivered in single dose sachets. It is to be consumed by mixing with the meal (after cooking, just before eating) or water. This intervention is verified and is endorsed by WHO & the product is FSSAI approved. It is extremely cost-effective. Our programme includes supply of sprinkles, regular health check-up camps, de-worming course, maintaining individualized electronic health records including comparative assessment of impact for every child. We are targeting kids 6months-5yrs of age among vulnerable and marginalized groups in community.

We have partnered with (state) Government of Maharashtra to carry out sprinkles complementary to their midday meal programme in Balwadis & Anganwadis in Vasai & Virar areas in the state of Maharashtra, India. In addition, we have partnered with NGOs such as Nargis Dutt Memorial Trust, Pragati, Lions Club of North Bombay, Mahila Vikas Shishu Sanskar Kendra, Upasana Society and Foundation for Humanist Society to increase our outreach. To add the indispensable component of sustainability, we counsel parents/guardians on nutrition and healthy diet. We educate them about backyard farming which can be means to meet nutritional requirements. To further encourage them to adopt it, we distribute seeds of indigenous fruit bearing perennial plants including banana, guava, papaya and our partner NGOs ensure implementation through follow-up.
